- 8:38 PM - The End

As fun as it was these few years, this site no longer serves any purpose. Everyone has moved on with their lives, and I couldn't be happier. I'll be having a daughter soon, and I don't think I even really posted that I was getting married way back in December except for that one little post.

I've removed the registration form and I'll be shutting off the login system by the end of the month.

Anyway, it's been a blast, and The Realm will not be gone. I still don't believe in deleting anything. It'll be back to life as soon as there's a reason for it. Peace.

- 1:30 PM - Going back to 2003

I'm playing Star Wars Galaxies on Bria now as ZiggyTheHamster. House is located outside of Ion City on Tattooine. I'm a smuggler.

Wow, haven't been here in a while. Congratulations!

(Also, neo, I added you on Steam)

Anyway. I updated my site finally. Yes, it's been four years. I know. :D Go! Now!

Yeah, as of today I'll be married. Woot and all that.

Expect the site to be really quiet for a while longer.

- 3:57 AM - Rock Band awesome.

My friend Zach got it today and I went over to his house (I don't have a 360 or PS3) and we started a new band... a few hours later, Estimated Arrival was headed to Stockholme in our private jet in search of international fame. We'd come a long way since we started out in New York City walking from gig to gig, lugging our equipment through the cold streets. Now we had roadies, wheels, wings, and some guy who decided one day to be our manager... oh, and something upwards of 250,000 loyal fans.

Seriously though, the game is great. It has a great song list, and the way that gameplay works is very cool. They did a lot of detail work in the game.. including having your avatar appearing to accurately sing or play along (i.e. the singer looks like he's actually singing the song being performed and the guitarists and drummer look like they're actually playing it.) Also, loading screens consist of your band members' avatars in publicity photos. Oh, and if your band is doing particularly well, you can hear the crowd singing the song along with you... in some cases they even repeat the vocalist's lines during gaps, just don't get confused and think that's what's happening when you hear your singer's voice echoing because he's in overdrive :)

All in all it's a great game, pricey, but worth it if you have the people to play it with.

- 11:04 PM - Getting married

December 8th. Yay for us. I just need to tear myself away from Guitar Hero III by the time Rock Band comes out so I can play the hell out of that so that I'll be done by the time I get married so that I can enjoy the full benefits of having a wife.

Yes, I'm kidding.

About the gaming, not the marrying.

- 2:52 AM - Oh, memories..

So, I pre-ordered The Orange Box the other night. Started playing the Team Fortress 2 Beta the next morning and I must say, it's worth the decade the game spent in development. The graphics put me off the game the first time I saw screen shots... but when I saw video, I was moved to purchase the game immediately. Thus far, my only complaint is that I sometimes miss all the grenades (they removed them to "fix" grenade spamming) and the only CTF map thus far is 2fort... not that I'm complaining about 2fort, I love 2fort.

I'm not going to go into how great and awesome the game is... if you never played TF or TFC, you lack the experience to frame such delight. And if you have played TF or TFC, just know that it lives up to it's predecessors.

Oh, and the game keeps track of your stats and achievements and displays them on your Steam Community page. Go take a look at mine.

- 8:41 PM - C&C Gold, free for download

I just read that Electronic Arts, in celebration of Command and Conquer's 12th birthday, is offering the original version for Windows 95, as a free download. Yes, I know the "original" version is for DOS. The installer was pure awesome.

If you've never played C&C and you enjoy RTS games, it's worth checking out. Even after 12 years, "that was left handed" still holds a special place in my heart.

- 2:41 AM - Escape pods

Just know that if you ever have 5 minutes to escape, make sure you do so immediately, just in case your escape pod malfunctions.

It sucks losing 1+ hours of progress because the developers play a trick on you.

- 2:33 AM - Why are we here?

As if I need to remind anyone, this site is for all intents and purposes dead.

Following its heyday during the MSN Chat days with Vincula and all, there's never been any real reason to come back. All of the posters and regular members have moved on with their lives, myself included, which leaves me with this decision:

What now?

That said, I have a few ideas. Granted they all would attract different types than what we currently have, but who's to say that would be a bad thing? The Realm has always been first and foremost my personal website. Perhaps I should reduce it to a personal blog, more along the lines of Mezzoblue rather than your standard MySpace fare. Perhaps I should actually put a serious focus on Essence Engine again.

Whatever I end up doing, I know one thing for sure: I appreciate everyone who's participated in the Realm in the past years it's been running. I've had lots of good times. Memories such as the $0.05 donation ("it's more than 1 cent!"), the online radio, the hours of chatroom games and scripting, and most importantly the dozens of great friends I've made throughout. I'm not even going to try to list all of you because I know I'd miss many names, but you know who you are. :)

This site won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

- 12:08 AM - MP3 = $$$

Anyone here ever actually look in to the cost of an MP3 license?

I was looking in to some libraries for a program I was thinking about writing. Now, if I wrote this program chances are I would distribute it as well. Turns out that doing it legally would be absolutely insane for a hobbyist. No wonder the OGG activists push back against MP3 as hard as they do. Basically, as long as I distribute less than 5,000 copies I'm safe, but beyond that I'd be charged a minimum of $15,000 a year.

I suppose if I ever bother, I'll make sure to in no way link MP3 related code in to my project. It'll have to use codecs provided by the host operating system or nothing.

- 12:54 AM - Wow, who could this be?

Well being bored out of my brain i thought i might have a browse of the web and see where i still have an account, turns out this site turns up when i search for XoRt so i thought i'd put in a post. I'm not dead (yet) just been out in real life, I'm a proffessional ski instructor and spend a lot of my time skiing and having fun. The other day i managed to damage both my ankles at once while in the park (not fun) but anyway i'm just giving everyone a shout.

Oh and i'm sitting writing this message in a big blue drgaon suit...
